We are very pleased to have won an appeal against the refusal of permission by Kensington & Chelsea for a new roof terrace to a house, close to Notting Hill.
K&C notoriously resist any roof extension and roof gardens, and have long-standing policies that go back many years to see off such schemes. An architect had prepared plans that we thought were sensitive to the property, but the Council refused permission. The case was taken to appeal and the Inspector agreed no harm to the conservation area, the terrace of housing or conflict with policies. Client: private householder

A client owned land in the Green Belt near Windsor which was being used for private allotments, being rented out to paying members of the public. With a shortage of allotment land in the south of England, this is a productive and profitable use for an un-economic small parcel of agricultural land, and was also much appreciated by local residents to grow their own food. However, the Council didn't see it that way and threatened enforcement action. It was demonstrated there was no breach of planning regulations, and no material harm that would justify such action, and the Council did not pursue the matter further.
Client: private company Following the grant of permission for a new house in a conservation area, the client needed to make alterations to the size and position of that new building. Always a sensitive issue in Kensington, since the scheme involved a double basement excavation and tricky access, the revised scheme was granted permission at Committee for this innovative new house.
Client: Honorbond Ltd Planning permission for a large basement and extension to a terraced house in north Westminster, along with alterations to the roof and extensions to the rear. The scheme raised issues of construction, trees and design. After long discussions with the Council, permission was approved under delegated powers.
