We have obtained planning permission at Committee for extensive works to a terraced house within a conservation area, off the Kings Road, Chelsea. The scheme will see re-modelling of the house, raising of the rear closet wing, alterations to the roof and lowering of the ground floor. This comprehensive scheme involved discussions with the planning officers and preparation of extensive information to demonstrate no harm to the area or to neighbours.

Planning permission has been granted at appeal for a high-level rear extension to an apartment, close to Hampstead town centre, North London. There had been two pre-application submissions to the Council both of which were negative. The formal planning application was then refused, with objections from the local Conservation Area Committee. However, along with the client and the architect, we thought there was a good case to be made at appeal. We submitted the appeal with strong evidence and it was allowed.
Client: private householder Listed building consent has been granted for works to the interior of a large property near Chesham Place, London. The property had been altered at the end of the 20th Century and the new owner wanted to undertake further changes, and reverse some of the unsympathetic interventions. We were involved in a multi-disciplinary team and provided evidence relating to heritage matters to secure the necessary consent.
Client: private householder Listed building consent has been granted for works to a flat on Mount Street, Mayfair, London. We undertook a heritage appraisal of this George and Peto building which had been modified in parts, but still kept much of its interior. We provided advice to the client and architect, and discussions with the conservation officer saw approval within 8 weeks.
Client: private householder A Certificate of Lawfulness has been granted for extensive changes and a contemporary addition to a house within a conservation area in East London. This architect-designed scheme was anticipated to be contentious for the site due to contemporary elements, but we proved that the design was permitted development, and objections from the Council were rebutted.
Client: private householder Another successful appeal result this week. This time in Wimbledon, for a large front, side and rear extension to a detached house in a private road. The refusal had been on the basis of harm to neighbouring amenity. We demonstrated that the extension would not cause any impact to neighbours and that the new extensions were a well-designed addition to the street.
Client: private householder Planning permission was refused for a side extension to a detached house in the Green Belt, near Windsor. The application had been prepared with detailed analysis of Green Belt policy and case law, and so the refusal of permission was felt to be unreasonable. We made an appeal, and the Inspector agreed with our interpretation of these matters. Permission was granted, and full costs awarded against the Council.
The case raised some important points of planning law and was reported in the planning press. Client: private householder An outbuilding had been built following the grant of permission, with various complex conditions that restricted the future use. The householder wished to make changes to the building and then provide additional annex accommodation for a family member. We presented the case to show how the building could be adapted, without conflicting with local policies.
Client: private householder We have obtained planning permission for the creation of a new off-street parking area to a house in North Kensington. The site lies in a conservation area with on-street parking, and the Council objected to the scheme. We proved at appeal there would not be any harm to parking in the area, and no harm to the area.
Client: private householder After discussions with the local planning authority, and the input from many specialists, a new basement has been granted planning permission in Kensington & Chelsea. The application was approved under delegated powers, without a single objection from neighbours.
